Desert Valleys is proud of our ALVA (Artists Living in the Valley Area) program which features a local artist each year.
The program, which further reflects the credit union's mission of community growth and involvement, is fairly simple in its function. The program allocates a $1,000 purchase of art from a local artist each year for display in our Community Resource Center. At the end of the one-year exhibition, the credit union will donate the art to three charitable groups:
- The China Lake Museum Auction
- The Maturango Museum Auction
- Ridgecrest Autism Awareness Auction
These groups will then auction the art off to local community members for their home or office. This program allows community artists to be enjoyed by the visitors to the CRC as well as helping our local museums and organizations.
In 2017, our featured artist is photographer Cheryl McDonald who was selected for her “still-life” photos on metal. Each April, the credit union selects a new artist to be featured and the works presented over the prior year are donated to local fundraising auctions.
If you are interested in participating in the program, our 2018 application will be available early next year.
